It’s a new year so it’s time to start this over and actually keep up with it.
As always these posts will be short of without true purpose other than creating a log (which honestly you can follow more detailed thoughts on my Letterboxd if you want).
This week I found myself attempting to catch up with a few 2016 releases that I missed as even though my best of year list is already posted I’m on the eve of recording my podcast version of this and wanted to see if anything would cut in and modify the list. It’s safe to say none of the below mentioned made the cut. I look forward though to the next couple of months where I get to see all those films that the rest of the world if listing as their best that I’ve not caught up with and regretting every thought I’ve had about the movies I’ve watched this year (I’m thinking of you Moonlight).
Otherwise my week has been plagued with thoughts of what to do next. How to proceed with the blog. There’s a part of me that wants to attempt to stand out more and that means taking risks with the format of writing as well as the subjects that I decide to write about. Like all things I ponder on like this I know that I have nowhere come close to answering either of those questions or even making any true promises to myself yet as to what the level of dedication I want to give here. I know it’s not zero, and I know it’s not an everyday/multiple post thought. Let’s just say it’s in process.
But before I bore you all to tears with my random thoughts, promises and even threats about my writing and internet presense, here’s my list of films that I’ve watched this past week:
FIRST TIME VIEWINGS
MCCABE & MRS. MILLER (1971) – I feel it may be a thing for me to not like Altman films. Nashville is the only one I’ve liked, and I may be lying to myself now.
AMERICAN HONEY (2016) – It’s a lovely expression of mental state and I want to watch it again before I say more.
FENCES (2016) – Over done stage play copy and pasted to screen. Great performances and not much else to talk about.
TONI ERDMANN (2016) – If someone just narrated the plot points I would laugh; watching it for 3 hours, not so much.
REWATCHES
GHOSTBUSTERS (2016) – I love this movie too much to quantify.
