BLOOD QUANTUM

It’s 2019, and we’re still watching films about zombies.

We all say that no genre can truly be played out because it’s the particulars of a story that makes it unique and fascinating, not the broad strokes. The problem with Blood Quantum however, is that while the particulars from afar seem interesting their execution seem unsure of themselves.

The film isn’t about an indigenous community decided whether or not to help outsiders from this zombie plague, beacuse at no point is it ever a decision we belabour over. This film is rather another zombie film in which we watch on as a group of people attempt to survive.

This narrative makes the film not a new and fresh take on the zombie genre but another entry in the long list of films you will scroll by and whatever streaming service late and night unable to decide which of the generic zombie posters to watch.

The best thing about this film is that at times it knows how to have fun with its characters. It isn’t  all just boring zombie nonsense with the odd side character being bitten, or in this case brutally devoured as bites don’t infect most of our main cast. There are scenes like when we see how our main hero’s son finds himself in jail the night of the outbreak. There’s even a direct reference to Pulp Fiction as our main badasses are about to raid a gas station in hopes of gaining some supplies. It shows the film can have life to it.

However, these moments are just not enough to revive this already dead on arrival film.

This is my blog. There are many others like it, but this one is mine. My blog is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my blog is useless. Without my blog, I am useless. I must fire my blog true. I will. Before God I swear this creed: my blog and myself are defenders of my mind, we are the masters of our enemy, we are the saviors of my life. So be it, until there is no enemy, but peace. Amen.
