LOVING THE 90S [FALLING DOWN]

D-Fens [Michael Douglas] is stuck in traffic one morning, and he decides he wants to “go home”. So he leaves his car in the middle of bumper to bumper traffic and starts walking home. On his way home he goes on a violent rampage across the city as he sees the nuisances and dregs of society that bothers him.

I have no idea why this movie is a “cult” film. Because I have come to look out for those movies with that kind of title, like “Donnie Darko”, “Blade Runner” and “Evil Dead”. I enjoy all of the movies I just listed, which is why I keep seeking out the ‘cult’ movie. However, this is an example of one of those movies that have too many followers for no real reason. This movie – to me – is an unfun ‘Shoot ‘Em Up’. This character is walking around and meets a Korean shop owner, who is over-charging people for simple products, and it annoys him. So what does he do? He destroys the guy’s shop to teach him a lesson.

This movie is not good. It annoys me that I have no understanding as to why this character is really going on this spree of violent acts. At first it feels like bordering on self-defense, and as the film progresses it crosses the line more and more into madness. The character just kept reminding me of Clive Owen’s character in Shoot Em Up, and how he would always go “I hate how _______ always ____” and then he shoots up the place. The only reason why I liked Shoot Em Up over this is that SEU didn’t take itself seriously so I could laugh at it.

Now at the other end of the spectrum we had the police officer, Detective Martin Prendergast [Robert Duvall], who gets wind of all of D-Fens’ acts for the day. It is Prendergast’s last day on the job, and he’s busy just trying to fill the day’s hours till he has to check out. He has the most annoying wife that I’ve seen in the history of movies ever. She must be the reason that King Henry created divorce.

There are so many characters in this movie that annoys me, and it really has to do with the fact that this movie takes itself way too seriously. And none of it makes any sense. I sat through this movie and I felt absolutely nothing towards the film, and when it was over I was just annoyed that I spent so much time with it. All you internet people need to get it straight and stop thinking bad movies like this is good.

Overall I say skip it, and if someone asks you what you think say it’s shit. If you all thought the crappy Batman movies were the only reason to hate on Joel Shumacher, here is another reason.

IMDB says 7.4/10

Rotten Tomatoes says 79%

I say 4.0/10

This is my blog. There are many others like it, but this one is mine. My blog is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my blog is useless. Without my blog, I am useless. I must fire my blog true. I will. Before God I swear this creed: my blog and myself are defenders of my mind, we are the masters of our enemy, we are the saviors of my life. So be it, until there is no enemy, but peace. Amen.

i remember watching this in the 90s. Struck a chord with me back then. I cant really remember much details of the plot nor can i remember why i liked it so much but i know i did. Shame to see you think so poorly of it, but your review makes me want to see it again – maybe after re watching it i can properly defend it.
