Brandi [Kelly-Ann Tursi] is a young 20 something year old woman who is having money trouble and decides to work as a fantasy girl. A fantasy girl is one who allows her clients to experience some of their fantasies, as long as it doesn’t involve her being completely nude, only as far as her undies, and no sex/kissing. It allows for the client to experience a scenario, like being treated like a child or a dog, but all without the sex that you would assume would come with this kind of film.
Brandi has her business partner, Chi [Paul D. Nguyen], who is there to protect her if anything goes wrong. He is in the business for the money to help spring board his music producing career. Even though the film doesn’t speak directly to how invested a relationship the two have it is implied that they are close enough that you honestly believe that he would not put her in any serious danger.
The movie begins and what seems to be her first job, as you see her partner tell her how it gets easier. This movie suffers from so many problems. One issue, which I have found in most of these low budget films, is that the acting is poor. A lot of these actors seem to be reading lines rather than living them. One of the worst acting comes from Chi and his hammed up acting. Sometimes I wasn’t sure whether he cared more about his goal of getting a record deal or protecting Brandi, and that made me mad because he was the character that you look towards to make the story most interesting. It is easily seen that the clients will be evil since they want to exploit Brandi, and Brandi is the most emotionally distraught of the lot since she is willing to put herself in these positions and unable to sleep at night. In the end you look to Chi to be Brandi’s more or less guiding light so as to shield her from as much darkness as possible and to make sure she doesn’t get in too deep.
I found the writing to be way too plain. The film lacked a lot of required exposition. Since the actors are all useless we never got to see enough physical implications to allow for the viewer to understand all the small intricacies of the relationship between Chi and Brandi. Every other character’s relation to another character is pretty easily understood as either being a business relationship. The only other relationship in the film I was interested in was Dianthia [Kalena Knox] and Brandi, and I think that this relationship was dealt with very well. Brandi is having trouble sleeping, so she would go down to a close by diner where Dianthia works and she would pay her to allow her to sleep there. However, when morning came she would be run out by the owner of the shop, I assume, as he would curse Dianthia for allowing her to stay there. I kept being unsure if monetary gain was the only reason for Dianthia’s tolerance of Brandi which I was happy how they dealt with this relationship in the end of the movie.
In the end here is a movie that I would not recommend to anyone. I did not enjoy it and I did not leave the film with any added knowledge that I didn’t find out from other films that I had already seen. The story drags along and the surprise twist is ridiculously hidden due to the horrible acting in the film.
IMDB says N/A
I say 2.0/10
If you want to see the movie you can order the DVD from the official website or amazon.com
I first heard about this film from a girlfriend who bought the film on DVD thought it was one of the best films she had seen indie or blockbuster that they had seen in a long time.
After watching the trailer and preview of the film, I have to disagree with the reviewer who thought the acting was horrible. Maybe there are other moments in the film but from what I saw in the trailer, clips and preview, the acting seemed pretty realistic to me.
On film's website, there were several links to reviews that praised the performances, story and writing with a few finding minor flaws but nothing that ruined the storyline or their experience of enjoying the film.
Based on what I have seen, I plan to buy a copy on DVD and check it out for myself.
Now let me not discourage you any further from getting your own copy of the film but your arguement is completely flawed. You are speaking of your experience watching the movie based on a 150 second or so trailer that was purposely edited to show you the best moments of the film. And the trailer for this movie is highly deceptive, I saw it after the movie itself, as it has a lot of really short cuts and never gives you a true feel for the movie only throwing together a lot of random dialog moments that never show you how horrible the movie is.
With all that said I'd love to hear your comments about the movie after you've actually watched it. Please respond to this post again when you've done that.
Mr. Robinson, I just received my copy in the mail today and will be watching this week.
Before I come back and respond with my take on the film, I wish to clarify that my opinion of the realistic acting is based on three -3- pieces of information. As I stated above, -1- a girlfriend who has seen the entire film highly recommended the movie to me, -2- after watching the trailer and preview of the film, (the preview I watched was the first 15 minutes of the film, plus two additional 3 minute clips found on the film's website) and -3- albeit that everyone is entitled to their opinions, there were several other reviews linked on the film's website that praised the performances.
My experience may be different from what I expect but I just wanted to further explain where I was coming from and how I arrived at my decision to purchase a copy of the film.
I will be sure to respond to your post after seeing the entire film.
I do not know what movie you are watching, but the movie that my wife and I watched was incredibly better than what you described. There was a few movements that the movie did drag but that was strictly due to the acting of the couple of actors. The acting kelly-Ann Tursi who played Brandy and Jon Morgan Woodward who played the infant man Roger were impeccable. The job that Kelly did alone due to the fact that there was some slow acting performed by both Bobby and chi only shows how superb of an actress she is because she was able to keep things alive during those scenes. And the performance of Jon Morgan Woodward was short of award winning performance. He was brilliant in the characterization of Roger who was obviously a very sick perverted and abused man as a child. Who was using Brandy to help him relive through those childhood memories. I have never heard a more distorted review of a movie in my life. My wife and I both agree on a score out of a zero to five rating we gave this movie a three. By no means is that a blockbuster movie but it is certainly a movie that is definitely worth everybody's time watching. If for no other reason to learn the reality of the secret industry of a fantasy girl.
A few weeks ago I purchased this film not completely sure that I would enjoy it.
Last weekend, I watched One Hour Fantasy Girl with a group of friends (6 women and one man). Never before have we discussed a movie hours after watching, and some of us a few days after. The performance of the lead actress was amazing. You really root for her and want her to make it. All of the actors did a fantastic job. While there were a few spots in the middle that were a bit slow, I did not find that to ruin the film at all.
One Hour Fantasy Girl is an emotional journey about finding your innner strength to make something better for yourself, on your own.
I highly recommend this film to anyone who enjoys movies that make you think.
the Internet is such a great medium and resource and I thank you for taking the time out to write, it is always a pleasure to read.
