This last week was a week that was filled with chatter of how awards should have a lot of question marks about it, again. We laughed at Ricky Gervais making crude jokes at the world of entertainment, once again reminding us, “it’s just a movie guys”. However most importantly David Bowie passed.
Now, I may not have been that teenager who went to see his shows in the 70s at the height of “Bowie”. I’ve been fawning over his music for probably less than a decade but I can’t help but feel some sort of connection to it. It’s odd, it’s unique and it’s unquestionably him. As I read article after article discussing his influence on not just music but on people, the bravery he gave everyone to just be themselves, no matter how weird and strange it is, is remarkable. As we sit and scroll through youtube watching him dress as Ziggy Stardust and all his other characters, I like to think of him as the aged rock icon who could now just appear and be the equivalent of cool. I wish I was there to see him on stage and bask in one of his performances first hand, but I’ll have to live with watching them on youtube and other mediums. I’m still not yet through his entire discography, but I’m certain that in time I’ll get there. This week has been a daily reminder that even though I wasn’t that day one fan, somehow I felt a connection, at times more so than I do about artists I’ve been in love with since I was a child, and daily I go back to his music wanting to cry and hold my head up honestly remembering that his music will continue to engage and teach his life lessons of diving head first into the weird.
New To Me
The Primary Instinct (2015) Something about this film feels like a TED talk about stories
Pawn Sacrifice (2015) I love chess, it isn’t cinematic to say the least
Joy (2015) watching Jennifer Lawrence take hold of the world is fun, kind of.
I Believe In Miracles (2015) football, music, shenanigans and just unbelievable stories of how a team did what I could honestly never imagining happening in modern football.
The Revenant (2015) a trapper versus a tracker, it’s revenge at it’s coldest
Away From Her (2007) sadness, in a basket, and more.
Rewatched
The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (2011) A lot better than I remember, and maybe even more so.
Godzilla (2014) Remember when movies meant big monsters? I do. This movie does.
