So here’s the thing. Last year I did my first film marathon The Yule Tide Marathon and here I am trying to repeat that while at the same time upping the ante. It’s 12 days until Christmas – my favourite holiday of the entire year – and I want to spend some time revisiting a lot of my favourite Christmas films and at the same time discover a couple ones that I’ve missed out on over time. So I hope I can keep up with myself and at the same time I hope you enjoy. These won’t be full blown reviews, but just tiny musings on these films. Enjoy.
Richard Curtis, the writer of films like Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill and Bridget Jones Diary, finally gets behind the camera to give us one of the best Christmas films of the last decade. We’re introduced to approximately nine different stories, romances, happening concurrently in England.
Basically the film features all of these stories of all of these people who all fall in love over the holidays – because Christmas time is magical. The film is one of those Christmas movies that touches your heart and warms the insides of any cynic out there. From Liam Neeson to Hugh Grant everyone learns about love and life. I find it interesting that this is the first film I think I’ve ever seen where someone plays the leader of a nation who is single and falls in love during his first month in office. I sometimes imagine what the headlines on the blogs and newspapers would say after all those photos are snapped with David and Natalie lip locking.
Anyways it’s my first day of Christmas and I hope you enjoy the films I’m going to be revisiting this almost fortnight. Check out the trailer for the film here:
Quote of the film:
Mark: With any luck, by next year – I’ll be going out with one of these girls.
[shows pictures of beautiful supermodels]
Mark: But for now, let me say – Without hope or agenda – Just because it’s Christmas – And at Christmas you tell the truth – To me, you are perfect – And my wasted heart will love you – Until you look like this.
[picture of a mummy]
Mark: Merry Christmas.
A line that makes me laugh every year when I dust off this dvd is "What are you gonna do next, dip it in yogurt?"
Awesome Hatter… it's one of those movies which have so many memorable moments… a moment I love is when Bill Nighy looks dead in the camera and gives his 'dont buy drugs' speech to the children.
