So as the title implies here is where I tend to let people know about DVDs that are coming out this week:
The Movies I’ve Heard of and Don’t give a Damn About
Shorts
So this is Robert Rodriguez (the man who gave us Desperado and Planet Terror) is back with another film that he did for children. Every now and again he does this (he also made Spy Kids and The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl) and I’ve never been a fan of these movies from him. If you have children you might give it a rent but I shall continue to ignore it.
Imagine That
Once again Eddie Murphy is on the big screen doing a children’s film. I doubt there’s been one of these movies that I’ve enjoyed. Last year I tortured myself and watched Meet Dave, and I refuse to watch this movie.
Far Cry
Here’s the new straight to video film directed by UweBoll. I guess I can move along now.

Angels & Demons
Tom Hanks returns to reprise his role as Robert Langdon and the vatican needs his help in solving a series of murders that are occurring in Rome. It isn’t a great but it is definitely an improvement from the first film and I wouldn’t rule out seeing it again. If you’re a fan of the book definitely check it out.
Four Christmases
Here is the Christmas movie of last year that surprised me and I loved (here is my review). However, I’m quite shocked as to how long it’s taken for the DVD to be released, I guess they decided to let it brew before releasing it to make the season boost the sales which seems odd since it’s such a fun comedy to watch. (WARNING there are Christmas spoilers for children in this movie, so if you are one of those parents you may not want to watch it with your children)
Gomorrah (Criterion)
Here is an interesting Italian film that I saw earlier this year about the current mafia in Italy (we’ve spoken about it on the podcast here). It is a really wonderfully shot film that my eyes enjoyed but it failed to completely win me over due to some clunky plot problems when it tried to tie all the multiple story lines at the end of the film, but it’s definitely worth checking out for those of you out there who like to see films that are different and those who love mob movies because it’s a completely different kind of mafia and is what feels like a true modern mafia.

Funny People
Here is Apatow’s latest film that I think is his best film to date (here’s my review). I love it and can’t wait to get my copy of the BluRay. All of the casting is spot on and the comedy is even better. If you like stand up comedy and comedy that actually has characters that you actually end up caring about what’s happening to them rather than just laughing at some stupid jokes.
Here are some movies being rereleased on BluRay for HD fans
Here is the thing. I’m not ‘recommending’ these movies. I’m just letting the already fans of the new generation of home theatre and the movies about to be mentioned. Personally all of these movies are either buys or rentals because they are all either movies that have a reputation to go along with them but I may not have seen all of them. So this week on BluRay is:
Blood: The Last Vampire
Ghost in the Shell
