So here it is again. The post where I let you know what I think about the movies I love, hate and just haven’t even seen yet that came out on DVD today:
I Haven’t Seen it and Don’t Want To
All About Steve
All you need to know is that Sandra Bullock for some reason is stalking Bradley Cooper and wants him and I’m sure somehow in the end they end up falling in love. This movie strikes me as cringeworthy a romantic comedy as Management was which I hated. I don’t even want to think about this movie anymore… move on.
Beyond All Reasonable Doubt
Michael Douglas I doubt has made an honestly good movie since he was in Steven Soderbergh’s Traffic in 2000. He has done a few ok comedies here and there but drama-wise he’s been rubbish and this movie makes me feel that same feeling I have when I eat too much chocolate or something like that.
Haven’t Seen and I Want to
Blind Date
This movie actually does look interesting in it’s concept that after the death of their daughter and couple decides to play out fantasies by going on blind dates acting as complete strangers all the time to attempt to escape the horror of their reality and Stanley Tucci is a brilliant actor when he wants to be but I just can’t see this as grabbing my attention in a good way. I guess this movie does deserve somewhat of a look see but with better films to watch at this point in the year I just have to ignore it for now and put it in the want to watch eventually section.

I’m not the biggest Mike Judge fan. Beavis & Butthead is a stain on my childhood memories and Idiocracy was a film that I down right loathed, while with his huge cult hit Office Space I did have trouble with it at first with each viewing it grew on me more and more and now I love it. This movie I’m interested in only so that I can make a definite decision on Judge as a filmmaker as to whether he’s a one hit wonder or just a hit and miss storyteller.
It Might Get Loud
Here is a documentary about music with some of my favourite musicians of course I have to check this one out. Jack White (from The White Stripes), The Edge (from U2) and Jimmy Page (from Led Zepplin) all get together to discuss their technique as rock guitarists. Count me in.
Buy These Now
(500) Days of Summer
I’m not sure if I’ve gushed about this movie enough yet. I love it. It is my #1 movie of 2009 and I want this on BluRay now. It is a sweet and sour tale about love and love lost. Joseph-Gordon Levitt is great in this as well as Zooey Deschanel and once you watch it you’ll need to watch it five or so more times immediately after. (here’s my review)
District 9
Here’s one of the best scifi films of the decade without a doubt. First time filmmaker was able to take us to South Africa and give us beautiful film which represented the apartheid and make us figure out why it was so bad with aliens rather than the blacks. I loved every second of this movie and even though most critics had issues with it becoming some sort of action movie towards the end it made me love it even more. (here’s my review)
Here are some movies being rereleased on BluRay for HD fans
Here is the thing. I’m not ‘recommending’ these movies. I’m just letting the already fans of the new generation of home theatre and the movies about to be mentioned. Personally all of these movies are either buys or rentals because they are all either movies that have a reputation to go along with them but I may not have seen all of them. So this week on BluRay is:
Subway
Grizzly Man
