TOP TEN MOST ANTICIPATED SUMMER MOVIES

Today is the (officially) the first day of the Summer Blockbuster Season.  So hear are my Top Ten Most Anticipated Films for the Summer.  The dates here are the official release dates in the US, not sure when it’ll be out where I am.

TEN – Robin Hood (dir. Ridley Scott) – May 14th

I was not too interested at first.  Another gritty/realistic reboot to a story that we’ve seen done so many times.  However, after recently seeing Kingdom of Heaven for the first time I have to admit that Ridley Scott is one of those directors that just loves huge war/medieval films and this one might just work.   Also having Russell Crowe and Mark Strong in the cast doesn’t hurt your chances of getting me in the theatre either. NINE – Predators (dir. Nimrod Antal) – July 9th

Yes, it’s the reboot of one of my favourite Arnie film. I’m not the biggest fan of Adrien Brody (he’s nothing special IMO) but this movie looks like it will end up being a complete crazy action flick that I’ll love (like the original).  Hopefully Laurence Fishburne will get killed off early and I won’t have to deal with his crappy acting. (view trailer here)

EIGHT – The Killer Inside Me (dir. Michael Winterbottom) – June 18th

I’ve become a huge fan of Casey Affleck ever since I saw him in Good Will Hunting and this film seems no different than his usual wonders in acting.  He looks dark and deep in the trailer and I expect to see a lot of disturbing scenes that will sear into my mind and I will love.  (view long NSFW trailer here)

SEVEN – Knight and Day (dir. James Mangold) – June 25th

If you know Tom Cruise you know the kind of movie he normally releases every summer.  We had a laugh about it during Tropic Thunder a couple years ago with him complaining about how Scorcher isn’t selling as well as it used to. Now this is him knowingly making fun of himself some more and I’m always up for that. (view trailer here)

SIX – The A-Team (dir. Joe Carnahan) – June 11th

I was so skeptical of this when I heard they were bringing this back.  Then the cast was announced, and then the trailer came out.  Now I can’t wait to watch this and have so much fun watching people like Bradley Cooper go kick some ass. (view trailer here)

FIVE – Centurion (dir. Neil Marshall) – Aug 27th

I know this is probably one of those that I’ll hate my theatre for because they won’t bring it out I’m sure but I’m still psyched for it.  I’m a huge fan of Michael Fassbender after seeing him in films like Hunger, Inglorious Basterds and Fish Tank I’ll watch anything he’s in. Let’s hope he smacks a bitch in this one too. (view trailer here)

FOUR – Iron Man 2 (dir. Jon Favreau) – May 7th

Yes nerds, three years later here’s the sequel to that awesome movie.  I can’t wait to see if the comic book movie rule stands true.  They say the sequel is always better than the first, and to say that there’s room for improvement on the first film would be an understatement.  However, I’m so excited to see how Sam Rockwell and Mickey Rourke do in this film. (view trailer here)

THREE – Toy Story 3 (dir. Lee Unkrich) – June 18th

Yes, Woody and Buzz and back.  However, they’ve been relocated to a daycare center.  So they no longer are dealing with the world of Andy’s room, but a whole new world.  Apparently sohow Woody has to save Andy or something and Buzz now speaks Spanish.  I really don’t care, Pixar made it means I’m watching it.  I recently rewatched the first two films and still love them, I expect a lot here and I’m sure I won’t be disappointed. (view trailer here)

TWO – Inception (dir. Christopher Nolan) – July 16th

The film stars: Leonardo DiCaprio, Ellen Page and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.  It’s directed by Christopher Nolan, who also directed films like: The Prestige, The Dark Knight, Batman Begins and Memento.  It’s honestly going to be a film that will be watched multiple times at the theatre without doubt. (view trailer here)

ONE – Scott Pilgrim vs. The World (dir. Edgar Wright) – Aug 13th

I love the comic book that this movie is based on and it’s directed by the man who gave us Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and SPACED.  I can’t wait to see how Edgar Wright does with this source material, and even more without his usual acting duo (Simon Pegg & Nick Frost).  It looks just as fantastical as the book and I can’t wait to see the indie music & 80s video game fun romcom on screen. What’s your most anticipated film of the summer?

Andrew Robinson

This is my blog. There are many others like it, but this one is mine. My blog is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my blog is useless. Without my blog, I am useless. I must fire my blog true. I will. Before God I swear this creed: my blog and myself are defenders of my mind, we are the masters of our enemy, we are the saviors of my life. So be it, until there is no enemy, but peace. Amen.

Great list Gman! A bit surprised that Inception isn't first but I can see why you would put Scott Pilgrim at the top. Personally Centurion and Knight and Day are some of the sleepers this summer for me. I'm not looking as much forward to Iron Man 2 since the final trailers came out. It just doesn't look as good as the first one but we will see very soon.
