With the Edward Yang series over it’s time to move from Taiwan to America with a filmmaker who’s still working today and our efforts to fill in a few gaps in his work. Todd Haynes has been known more recently for films like Wonderstruck and Carol. Long before that he was pushing limits of what thematically and legally was allowed to be projected in that dark room we liked to go visit before a pandemic told us all to stay at home.
We start with his no longer legally allowed to be viewed 1988 short film Superstar: The Karen Carpenter Story.
