Recapping my week is tough I guess, between hectic days, an upcoming long weekend, and me still counting down (less then three weeks to go) to TIFF I don’t know what to really talk about. I continue in my effort to knock a lot of the first half of 2012 film releases I miss out of the way, no matter how bad they look. I want to try and say that I hit 3/4 of all the releases one year just once before June of the following year. Anyways, here’s my week’s tally for your approval (or something I guess):
FIRST TIME WATCHED
THE WATCH (2012) – so much funnier than I hoped, but still enough gaps to make it not that instant classic that we hope for.
THE BOURNE LEGACY (2012) – easily one of the most forgettable films of the summer, too much talking and not enough ass-kicking.
A GOOD OLD FASHIONED ORGY (2012) – I feel this movie could’ve been saved by removing the romantic subplot and actually making it 100% about the awkwardness of these friends having an orgy, Sudekis does his best to keep it working and it does for 60% of the time.
BLOODSPORT (1988) – Oh the 80s action cheesefest of a JVCD film… prepping for Expendables viewing.
CASA DE MI PADRE (2012) – Pretty damn funny, Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna are almost as good as Will Ferrel, but only almost.
ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT (SEASON 3) – I guess I liked the show, but I’m almost more interested in what they would’ve done with Season 4 if they had done it then rather than now looking years after it’s all over.
REWATCHED
THE REF (1994) – “From now on, the only person who gets to yell is me. Why? Because I have a gun.”
THE HUNGER GAMES (2012) – “May the odds be ever in your favour”
X-MEN: FIRST CLASS (2011) – “My fellow Mutants! The real enemy is out there.”
WEIRD SCIENCE (1985) – “That’s my boys.”
THE COUNT
129 First time watches (56 from 2012); 80 Rewatches; 209 Total Films
easily the best thing I watched all week was Billy Wilder's ONE, TWO, THREE. Killer dialogue delivered at *such* breakneck speed! Give it a watch.
Oh, and buckle up – TIFF's schedule gets handed down on Tuesday morning. Get ready for insanity.
ye.. that's when I'll officially start cursing about this and that about scheduling trying to fit every freaking film I can into my trip… ahh good days.
