So last week was my birthday — YAY!!!. I’m older. Moving on.
Otherwise I guess it was another one of those weeks that not only did work become a prominent part of my days but gaming did as well — as I got a copy of Far Cry 3 (will be doing a lot of this during the long Easter weekend here). I’ve also set a pile of blu rays that I own and am yet to actually watch (even though most of them I’ve seen before) since buying them and am challenging myself to get through them sometime this upcoming week. Anyways, this is what I watched this week past:
ENDGAME (2009)
I’m not going to say that I couldn’t imagine this movie being this boring, because I kind of assumed it would be when I saw the trailer back in 2009. It’s just such a waste of a film which is sad since the topic discussed (apartheid) is such a serious one. Hear my (and my co-hosts) thoughts on this film on the latest TUMP.
IT’S A DISASTER (2013)
Put enough funny people in a room, lock the door and tell them they’re all going to die in a few hours and you’ve got one piece of entertaining cinema. It’s a bottle episode for the theatre and I’m happy to say I enjoyed myself with it. Read more here.
JUDGE PRIEST (1934)
When Southern hospitality meets witty charm you’re going to get Judge Priest. Will Rogers lifts this highly dated film above being a film of it’s time every minute he is in it. Read my full review here.
TROUBLE WITH THE CURVE (2012)
This is a movie I avoided for a long time, so why did I watch it? Because it was available for cheap and I had nothing better to do with my Friday night. Oh was I wrong. This film is so much worse than I could’ve imagined. Eastwood is has exceeded his graveliness and craziness even more than he was at the DNC last year and it’s not even funny. Part of wished that if I ignored Eastwood and just paid attention to the Timberlake/Adams plotline I’d see something okay, but that failed as well (even though Adams was pretty fun most times). Just never watch this movie people.
REWATCHED
When Tony Scott died there was a big disccussion about his films. I’ve always been reserved about his movies, some are okay to fun a lot seemed not that great to bad to me. Deja Vu is a film I remember hating, I almost want to say mentally I catalogued it with Out of Time (a film I’m hoping there is no debate over it’s badness). I am here to apologize to Denzel Washington time-travelling as I feel that the last fifteen minutes of the movie handles the resolution of time travelling and shifting timelines better than most art movies that we (as cinephiles) constantly heap praise onto daily.
This past week was my birthday, and I received a copy of Badlands in the mail from my amazing brothers — thanks guys. So immediately reaching home from work (skipping the gym because it’s my birthday) I popped this bad boy in and I still love it. Watched a bunch of special features and am so happy that Criterion was able to restore this film in glorious HD. It reminds me that I’m still waiting to give Terrence Malick a chance, even though I’m not the biggest fan of To the Wonder or Tree of Life.
Close-Up,this month’s blindspot, I watched a second time in the last two weeks and mainly just to get a better understanding of the film. I love this movie so much.
This weekend is G.I. Joe weekend, so I revisited G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra, and I think the cracks might be begining to show for me. Regardless I still kind of love the campy funness of this movie too much to care. I can’t wait to see the sequel (in a couple hours).
My count for the year of 2013 is updated to 60 First time watches (11 from 2013); 38 Rewatches; 98 Total Films
