This has been a very big week, movie-wise, for me. With two days off work I had a lot of free time to get through so much of my TO WATCH list. I’m hitting the middle of the year and on track to make a film a day average this year, maybe it’s that I’m counting my rewatches this time around as opposed to only looking at the films I watch for the first time. Regardless, it all counts.
FIRST TIME VIEWING
AVANTI! (1972) – There’s Billy Wilder, Clive Revill, Juliet Mills & Jack Lemmon, but what do I love most about this movie? Italy.
THE PURPLE ROSE OF CIARO (1985) – A great representation of why people such as myself love movies so much.
MIRROR MIRROR (2012) – Tarsem is becoming a man of diminishing returns. Great visuals and acting but the film fails to grab me with it’s tone and story.
PROJECT X (2012) – A bad movie all around. I get the appeal, it’s just a big party vibe, but everything about it is just repulsive.
THE FIVE-YEAR ENGAGEMENT (2012) – another on and off comedy which I feel deserves a look at again when DVD comes around.
THE DICTATOR (2012) – uneven comedy where Sacha Baron Coen fails to hit the mark with any form of a point towards the end
THE IT CROWD (UK) (SEASON 2) – I work in IT, this is brilliant.
REWATCHED
BEING JOHN MALKOVICH (1999) – “Sounds great! Who the fuck is John Malkovich?”
TOP GUN (1986) – “That’s right! Ice… man. I am dangerous.”
BLACK SWAN (2010) – “was I good?”
INCEPTION (2010) – “You’re waiting for a train, a train that will take you far away.”
THE COUNT
88 First time watches (25 from 2012); 53 Rewatches; 141 Total Films
