With the return of my writing to some level of normalcy — am I speaking too soon? — I bring you my updated watch list. My last one was mid October and I really have no desire to list all the films I’ve been watching in this unnanounced hiatus from writing. If you want to see check out my Letterboxd account, I’ve been keeping that updated throughout.

Anyways this week begins my efforts to trudge through all the 2013 gems I’ve missed so far this year and a lot of writing will surround that in coming weeks I promise. I’m surprised that while my theatrical viewings aren’t the numbers of some of my much more better situated blogging compatriots I’m still hitting the cinema somewhat regularly — especially for the unemployed.

Also in my time off I’ve been doing a lot of coding and design, so feel free to give Movie Mezzanine a look as I’ve been helping out there to make things look shiny again. Should I redesign here? I dunno… maybe.

PRINCE AVALANCHE (2013) – Worthwhile film for those willing to sit through the mundane for something interesting
DIARY OF A COUNTRY PRIEST (1950) – My third Bresson film yet, the first I outright dislike.
THE TO DO LIST (2013) – I hoped for more, but it’s just another teen sex comedy that barely tries to be smart
THOR: THE DARK WORLD (2013) – Sad how boring this movie is
JOBS (2013) – Lifetime called… they want their script back
FRANCES HA (2013) – I won’t go so far as to say amazing, but pretty damn great film
TURBO (2013) – It was made for five year olds and that’s ok, but I hate you Douglas
THE STORY OF FILM: AN ODYSSEY (2011) – A month of watching a 15-hour long documentary comes to a close and I couldn’t be happier
