It’s been a week. I’ve got a lot of writing to get through this weekend and a lot more movies I want to see.
It’s weird how this sabatical from employment that I’m on has spurned on a level of procrastination I haven’t felt in eons. Must be since my schooling days where I had so much free time that there always seems to be another moment that I have to put something off to. But I promise a few big things with me and the internet in the coming week and a lot more consistency with my writings.
I will be debuting a post that I’ve been meaning to push live for near six months, it happens from time to time, and otherwise some writing life news. Still awaiting a relatively good phone call to see if my next few months will be as or more interesting as my last few years.
However, onto my week’s list. Much less than my 3 week TIFF update, but still a lot of fun in there:
SHERLOCK, JR. (1924) – Fantastical filmmaking that I won’t forget
RUNNING ON EMPTY (1988) – Why didn’t you guys tell me about this gem? You probably did though.
AFTER EARTH (2013) – I was optimistic… but it was right, Will Smith directed (I refuse to believe that Shamylan is anything but a fall guy here) films aren’t that good.
BEHIND THE CANDELABRA (2013) – Some great acting, but overall let me down as a Soderbergh swan song, for now at least.
THE BLING RING (2013) – I didn’t think I could dislike a Sofia Coppola film, now I know it’s possible.
THE SECRET OF THE GRAIN (2007) – Hmmmm….
REWATCHED
ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND – “Today is a holiday invented by greeting card companies to make people feel like crap.”
BRICK – “I’ve got knives in my eyes, I’m going home sick.”
STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS – “KHAAANNNN!”
THE FLY – “What am I working on? Uhh…”
THIS IS THE END – “You have iPad’s all over the goddamn walls in your house, but you jack off like a fuckin’ pilgrim!”
My count for the year of 2013 is updated to 218 First time watches (121 from 2013); 142 Rewatches; 360 Total Films
Re: Bling Ring – Remind me where you come down on SOMEWHERE?
PS – Still beating you at both first-timers and total, but something tells me you'll pull ahead by next weekend.
I liked SOMEWHERE a lot… I do want to revisit that film after now seeing Bling Ring
PS – In Candelabra, how much did you love Rob Lowe?
hmmm… didn't much think about Lowe. He was there.
Oh come ON! That glorious absurdity that was his face!!?? How could you not be amused by that bit of foolishness?
