So much this week that I didn’t accomplish that makes me disappointed. The European Film Festival has begun here in Trinidad and some great films are showing (We Need to Talk About Kevin, Once, The Secret in Their Eyes) and sadly I’ve not been able to check them out yet. Some I’ve seen already, some I’ve never heard of and I’m sure if I see two films it’ll be a lot for me (damn you work).
Regardless I’ve started to get used to the old schedule of writing, though I continue to get things going some nights. So here’s my weekly consumption of film for you to know about:
FIRST TIME WATCHED
DAMSELS IN DISTRESS (2012) – overly stylized quirky characters that never leaves the realm of annoying
LOLA VERSUS (2012) – boring entry in the romantic comedy genre that never makes itself indistinguishable from every other run of the mill romcom.
CARRIE (1976) – great horror classic. Performances and themes hit perfectly as well as great filmmaking.
BUTTER (2012) – not as overly funny as I hoped it would be but Jennifer Garner knocks it out of the park whenever she’s on screen.
LITTLE NICHOLAS (2009) – stupid silly French children’s film that was obviously made for six year olds.
HULK VS. (2009) – silly Saturday morning cartoon by Marvel, loved the Wolverine half much more than the Thor.
ASTONISHING X-MEN: GIFTED (2010) – first motion comic I’m watching and surprised at how much I loved the art and animation. Love the book regardless.
SHERLOCK (SEASON 2) – a massive improvement from Season 1, though the hounds episode was much to be desired for me.
REWATCHED
DR. NO (1963) – “World domination. The same old dream. Our asylums are full of people who think they’re Naploeon. Or God.”
PROMETHEUS (2012) – “Big things have small beginnings”
THE COUNT
185 First time watches (103 from 2012); 87 Rewatches; 272 Total Films
Just rewatched THE SOCIAL NETWORK with Fincher's commentary. That might be the first time I've listened to a commentary that included censorship bleeps
I've never played the commentary o. that one. Don't think I've ever heard a bleeped commentary track. Or did they make that one special for you?
Nope, it's the track that's on there.
The dumb thing is a bleeped word leaves you wondering: Fincher says "That note Zuckerberg gets handed was originally just supposed to say (bleep) ". Well now that I know that…
That said, one bleep IS warranted – during the track, Fincher tells people to email Aaron Sorkin and gives out his email address.
